What is Off the Mat Into the World?
Founded by Seane Corn, Hala Khouri, & Suzanne Sterling, Off the Mat Into the World® (OTM) is a non-profit organization dedicated to bridging yoga and activism. Founded in 2007, OTM’s mission is to use the tools of yoga, meditation, and self-inquiry to inspire leaders to create conscious, sustainable change. We define activism as an act of standing for solidarity, equality, justice, and freedom for all.
Our graduates do work ranging from offering yoga to survivors of domestic violence, people in recovery, vulnerable youth and incarcerated people to organizing and educating people around issues of social justice, food justice, and international humanitarian work. Our leaders embody the idea of taking yoga “off the mat.”
Yoga is an incredible tool. We believe that the practice can be a launching pad and a vital practice that informs our leadership. In order to support leaders regardless of their ability to pay, we rely on donations to make our work accessible to everyone.
At OTM we believe that yoga is for everybody. We are committed to supporting and igniting a diversity of voices in our training programs, and we want to see leaders from all walks of life sharing their gifts and inspiring others to make the world a better place.
What We Do
From yoga studios to retreat centers, online to in the streets, we are using yoga and meditation as tools for personal, community, and global transformation.
Through weekend trainings, four- and five-day intensives, and online courses, we support yogis in becoming conscious and effective community leaders, covering topics like social justice, connecting with our passion and purpose, and linking embodied practice with effective social change work.
Action & Activism:
We support and inspire conscious, sustainable activism, connecting leaders with opportunities for action and offering people at every level of engagement yoga skills and community support to create meaningful change in the world from a place of service, solidarity, and accountability.
Ultimately, we work to build and sustain an ever-growing community of yogis and conscious activists. From local Yoga In Action circles to social media-hosted learning groups to networks of yogis at the leading edge of activism, people everywhere are taking their yoga off the mat and into the world.
